This move is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to maintain the quality and integrity of the country's passports, ensuring they meet international standards and are secure against fraudulent activities.
Effective Date and New Fee StructureThe revised fees will take effect from September 1, 2024.
The cost for obtaining a 32-page passport booklet with a five-year validity period has been increased from Thirty-five Thousand Naira (₦35,000) to Fifty Thousand Naira (₦50,000). Similarly, the fee for the 64-page passport booklet with a ten-year validity has been raised from Seventy Thousand Naira (₦70,000) to One Hundred Thousand Naira (₦100,000).

Notably, these changes apply only to applicants within Nigeria. The fees for those in the diaspora remain unchanged, reflecting a balanced approach to the fee increase.Government's Justification
The Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), through its Public Relations Officer, DCI KT Udo, explained that this adjustment is necessary to sustain the high standards expected of the Nigerian passport.

The increase will enable the government to continue offering quality service and ensure the integrity of the passport issuance process.
Public Reactions and Concerns While some citizens have expressed concerns about the higher costs, the NIS has assured the public that the increase is a necessary measure for improving service delivery.

The government acknowledges that the fee hike might inconvenience some applicants but remains committed to transparency and excellence in service provision.
Final Thoughts As Nigeria continues to navigate the complexities of global travel and security, the need for robust and secure travel documents is paramount. The government’s decision to revise passport fees underscores its commitment to maintaining the integrity of the Nigerian passport.

Although this change may pose a financial burden for some, it reflects the importance of securing a passport that meets international standards and safeguards the identity of Nigerian citizens.

I officially made it to 30 happy birthday to victor olawale

Good morning, world! ๐ŸŒ… And more importantly… good morning to ME! It’s Sunday, January 11, 2026… and guess what? I officially made it to 30. Like… right now.  Fresh 30. Brand new day. To everyone who’s been part of this journey — my family who raised me right (most of the time ๐Ÿ˜), my friends who turned into family, the ones who prayed for me, laughed with me, and sometimes had to drag me back to my senses — thank you. You didn’t j...
