Each juror selects their top ten players, who are awarded points.
The player with the most points wins the Ballon d'Or, with ties broken by first-place votes and other rankings if necessary.
Each Ballon d'Or recipient keeps their trophy, and additional replicas can be requested. The France Football offices also hold two original trophies for exhibitions.
