MY EXPERIENCE AT NEMCEA 2026: CELEBRATING CREATIVITY, MEDIA, BRANDS AND THE FUTURE OF THE CREATOR ECONOMY
By Victor Horlly
Being part of the Nigerian Electronic Media Content Exhibition and Awards (NEMCEA) 2026 was more than just attending an industry event—it was an opportunity to witness the future of Nigeria's media, entertainment and creative economy coming together under one roof.
As a music artist, content creator, media personality and the voice behind Victorhorlly and Horllyworld, attending NEMCEA 2026 gave me a fresh perspective on where the creative industry is heading and the importance of positioning ourselves beyond just creating content.
The fifth edition of NEMCEA, organised by the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN), was held in Lagos under the theme:
"The Creator Economy – Elevate Your Craft, Secure Your Future."
And truly, this message could not have come at a better time.
A PLATFORM FOR THE FUTURE
NEMCEA 2026 brought together content creators, broadcasters, producers, media executives, advertisers, regulators, entrepreneurs, creative professionals and industry stakeholders to discuss the future of content creation and sustainability.
One of the strongest messages throughout the event was clear: creativity is no longer just about passion. Creators must also understand business, intellectual property, distribution, technology, audience development and financial sustainability.
For someone like me who continues to build a career through music, digital content and media with my platform Horllyworld, this conversation was particularly important.
The future belongs not only to those who can create but also to those who understand how to protect, distribute, promote and monetize their creativity.
CELEBRATING THE BRANDS THAT MADE NEMCEA 2026 POSSIBLE
A successful industry event of this magnitude cannot happen without the support of organisations that believe in creativity and the people behind it.
I would like to acknowledge and appreciate the brands and organisations that contributed to making NEMCEA 2026 a meaningful gathering for Nigeria's electronic media and creative industry.
Zee World
Zee World continues to demonstrate its commitment to entertainment, storytelling and the African creative ecosystem. Its presence at NEMCEA once again highlighted the importance of international media platforms supporting local creativity and industry development.
LAPO Microfinance Bank
LAPO Microfinance Bank deserves recognition for its continued investment and interest in empowering entrepreneurs and creative professionals. Financial knowledge and access to opportunities remain essential for creators who want to transform their talent into sustainable businesses.
Standard Insurance Consultants Limited
Standard Insurance Consultants Limited brought an important conversation about security, welfare and risk management into the creative industry. Creators also need to think about protecting their future, their businesses and their wellbeing.
Algorithm Media
Algorithm Media's presence represents the growing importance of technology, data, digital distribution and innovation in today's media landscape.
MediaReach OMD
MediaReach OMD continues to represent the advertising and media-buying side of the industry, reminding creators that understanding audiences and connecting brands with consumers remains an important part of the creator economy.
Maxi Media Communications
Maxi Media Communications also played a role in supporting the vision of NEMCEA and the continued development of Nigeria's media and content ecosystem.
Acuity Plus Media
Acuity Plus Media's involvement further reflects the collaboration needed between media organisations, content owners and industry professionals to build a stronger creative economy.
ACKNOWLEDGING THE INSTITUTIONS AND INDUSTRY STAKEHOLDERS
NEMCEA 2026 was also strengthened by the presence and support of important institutions and organisations shaping Nigeria's media and creative industries.
Special recognition goes to:
- Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN)
- National Broadcasting Commission (NBC)
- Advertising Regulatory Council of Nigeria (ARCON)
- Nigerian Television Authority (NTA)
- Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN)
- National Orientation Agency (NOA)
- Voice of Nigeria (VON)
- National Council for Arts and Culture (NCAC)
- Media Independent Practitioners Association of Nigeria (MIPAN)
- Broadcasting Organisations of Nigeria (BON)
- Association of Advertising Agencies of Nigeria (AAAN)
- Advertisers Association of Nigeria (ADVAN)
The presence of these organisations shows that the creative industry cannot grow in isolation. Government institutions, regulators, broadcasters, advertisers, financial institutions, media companies and creators must continue working together.
MY EXPERIENCE AS VICTOR HORLLY
Personally, attending NEMCEA 2026 was an honour.
I came into the event not just as an attendee but as a creative entrepreneur, independent music artist and content creator who understands the journey of building something from the ground up.
My journey as Victor Horlly has always been about more than making music. It has been about creating, inspiring, connecting with people and building a platform that can grow beyond borders.
Through my music and my media platform, Horllyworld, I continue to believe in the power of independent creators.
Attending NEMCEA reminded me that every creator has a place in the future of this industry.
Whether you are a musician, filmmaker, broadcaster, blogger, producer, presenter, digital creator or entrepreneur, your creativity has value. But beyond talent, we must learn how to position ourselves for opportunities.
THE CREATOR ECONOMY IS HERE
One major takeaway from NEMCEA 2026 is that the creator economy is no longer something we should only talk about—it is already happening.
Technology has changed everything.
Today, a musician can release music independently. A filmmaker can distribute content digitally. A blogger can build a global audience. A creator can build a business from a mobile phone.
However, opportunity also comes with responsibility.
We must learn to:
- Protect our intellectual property.
- Build sustainable businesses around our creativity.
- Understand our audience.
- Embrace technology and innovation.
- Create valuable collaborations.
- Develop multiple revenue opportunities.
- Think beyond temporary popularity.
The goal should not only be to go viral.
The goal should be to build something that lasts.
NETWORKING, LEARNING AND BUILDING CONNECTIONS
Another beautiful part of NEMCEA 2026 was the opportunity to meet people from different areas of the industry.
Events like this create opportunities for conversations that may eventually become partnerships, collaborations, friendships and business opportunities.
Sometimes, one conversation can change the direction of your career.
This is why creators should not only focus on what they can gain immediately. They should also focus on relationships, knowledge and long-term opportunities.
CONGRATULATIONS TO EMCOAN AND EVERYONE INVOLVED
I want to sincerely appreciate the leadership of the Electronic Media Content Owners Association of Nigeria (EMCOAN) for continuing to create a platform that brings together the Nigerian media and creative ecosystem.
NEMCEA has continued to grow as a space for content discovery, industry conversations, exhibitions, networking and the celebration of excellence.
Congratulations to the organisers, sponsors, partners, speakers, exhibitors, media organisations, nominees, award recipients, creators and everyone who contributed to the success of NEMCEA 2026.
THE JOURNEY CONTINUES
As I left NEMCEA 2026, I carried more than photographs and memories.
I carried inspiration.
I carried ideas.
I carried new motivation to continue building.
As Victor Horlly, I remain committed to growing my music, expanding my creative vision and using platforms like Horllyworld to contribute positively to entertainment, media and the creator economy.
To every young creator out there, I want to say this:
Do not underestimate your creativity. Learn your craft, protect your work, build relationships and understand the business behind your talent.
